Fatty liver disease, also known as hepatic steatosis or steatotic liver disease, is a condition where excess fat builds up in the liver.
There are two main types of fatty liver disease:
Alcoholic fatty liver disease: Caused by heavy alcohol use.
Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD): Also known as metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease, this type of fatty liver disease is not caused by heavy alcohol use. NAFLD is commonly associated with metabolic syndrome, obesity, diabetes, and hyperlipidemia.
Lifestyle changes can help treat fatty liver disease, including:
Eating a healthy diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains
Limiting alcohol, simple sugars, and portion sizes
